# Quickstart

> Choose between the dashboard track for building your first plan and the code track for wiring Schematic into your application.

Schematic is a usage-based billing platform, so your plans, prices, and allowances live in Schematic rather than in your application code. The quickstart is split the same way, so you can take the path that matches your job and hand the other one to a teammate. Both tracks end in the same place, with a plan you can bill on and an application that meters usage and enforces what each company is entitled to.

#### [Set up your first plan](/quickstart/set-up-your-first-plan)

Setup your pricing in Schematic's app. Go from an empty account to a published plan with pricing, metered features, limits, and a working checkout. No code.

#### [Instrument your app](/quickstart/instrument-your-app)

Wire Schematic in your product. Install an SDK, identify your companies and users, report the usage you bill on, and check an entitlement before a feature runs.

## Working with an AI assistant?

Connect it to Schematic's MCP server at `https://api.schematichq.com/mcp` and it can take either track with you. On the dashboard track it builds your plans from a pricing page or a price sheet. On the code track it reads your real feature keys and plans as it writes the integration. Each track opens with the setup, and the Quickstart page in your Schematic account has a kickoff prompt that starts the whole thing from the top.

## New to Schematic?

Read [Concepts](/concepts) for plain-language definitions of features, plans, entitlements, and companies. It takes about five minutes and makes both tracks easier to follow.

## Prefer to read a working app?

Clone the [React/Next.js quickstart project](https://github.com/schematichq/schematic-quickstart), or open the [hosted version](https://schematic-quickstart.vercel.app/entitlements) in a browser. It wires up the same pieces the code track walks through, so you can see the finished result before you build it yourself.
